Edward Aka Eddie, Ed's Story

During and after high school, use to hang out around the Hawaiian Inn, did a lot of surfing. I became a member of the Volusia County Beach Patrol, 1968 thru 1980, working as a lifeguard sitting every tower from New Symrna to north of the Ormond pier, worked my way to assistant captain at the Shores lifeguard station (aww, the good ole days). In 1975 I was the lifeguard at the silver beach approach and a fire broke out in the motel. I had my first chance to fight a fire and it felt pretty good. I was hit with the bug for sure. I've been in the fire service for the last 32 years, covering Daytona Beach Shores in the early days, still lifeguarding on my days off from the fire department. Looking for greener grass, worked the fire departments at Jacksonville and Tampa areas after that. During that time I graduated from the police academy in 1989, and became an arson investigator and still qualified to this day. I retired as a Fire Chief in 1998, and of course was still to young to totally retire. I came back to Daytona in 2000, and worked the beach patrol on weekends the first summer back and also working at the Holly Hill Fire Department since then. I have 7 more years til I can totally retire and collect 2 pensions....I'm looking forward to that. When the day comes, I'll see the orient, the south pacific and where ever I want to go. I've been divorced for over 10 years, so I still hit the beach, paddle around on my board, catch...Expand for more
a few waves, work on my beachside house and chill. I have a daughter,33, who lives in Georgia and whats cool is that she is following in my foot steps. Yep, she's a firefighter too, and working up the career ladder. I'm really proud of her and she'll be getting married this October 2009. Well, I finally retired, January 7, 2010, a little premature, but with todays economy and all the cut backs. This April, 2010 I think I'm officially retired now, I know because I bought a set of golf clubs and will be taking up the sport and hopefully will not break anything or hit anybody. My daughter Andrea gave me a grandson October 17, 2010, and he is just like his mom. I'm a very proud dad, and grandpa for sure. I'm really getting into the golf thing, and try to play at least twice a week. Hard to believe I've been retired now for 3 years the middle of January 2013, wow, time flies. Still working on my house and try to play golf at least twice a week, letting what hair I have grow out, down to my shoulders now. Hey, I had to keep a military hair cut for 40 years, so now I having my mid life crisis, LOL. Well, thats about it on my life for now. I'm looking forward to the future, as long as I'm still breathing. Damn, it's still hard to believe that 45 years has gone by....Hopefully, I can get in touch with some of the folks I used to hang out with back in the day. I hope to hear from you, fill me in on how your life is treating you...
